Sohar Free Zone is launched with the aim of achieving sustainable solar energy for industrial centers. Sohar Solar Qabas, owned by Shell, is the company’s first photovoltaic (PV) solar project in the Middle East and Oman.
This power plant is located on a 50-hectare land in the Sohar Free Zone and includes more than 88,000 solar units. Renewable electricity generation from Qabas will be supplied to large ferrochrome production facilities with the aim of replacing gas with fuel for energy production, and It prevents the production of more than 25,000 tons of CO2 annually..
